Kids in Town 2018

The Kapa Haka and Legends Choir performed superbly last week at the Art Gallery, as part of the
Kids in Town programme run by the City Council.

It is great to see so many of our whanau come along to watch and many visitors to the city
stopping to take in the music. Jamison and Brierley played a lovely duet on the cello and viola,
Mya and Abi did a tap dance, and Eva and Samantha danced.

Cultural Festival

On Wednesday we performed at the Christchurch Primary Schools Cultural Festival at the Horncastle Arena. We participate in this festival biennially, so it is an exciting performance for us. The festival runs all week and around 5000 students participated this year. We are very proud of our Hoon Hay performers. You can check out their performance and some photos below. Kapa Haka Wānanga Performance

We were overwhelmed by the turn-put to our end of year Wānanga Performance. To start off the evening the Year 5 & 6s led all performing Kapa Haka members into the hall with Aoraki Taku Maunga. They then performed the haka Waitaha Riporipo. Next, the Juniors (Year 2 & 3) performed Aoraki Te Mauka, Tirama Tirama Ngā Whetu, and the haka Panana Panana. The Year 4 - 6s performed Whakarongo Mai, Ngā Waka E Whitu, Ka Pioioi E, and the haka Tahu Pōtiki. To finish off the evening, all performers sang Kia Tau together.

Tūmeke to all our performers! Kia ora to Miss Hansen for coming back to play the guitar for us at the last minutes, to our presenter Julana, to our Senior Kaea for leading our performances (Kaya, Kāmaioha, Mishayla & Sophie), and the juniors who led the junior items (Zachariah, Rosaria, Eva, Laura, Zoe & Flynn).

Kapa Haka Visit Cherry's ELC

On Tuesday 5th July the Senior (Year 4-6) Kapa Haka visited Cherry's on Maryhill as part of celebrations for Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori. The children at Cherry's were very excited to have us and sent us a lovely thank you card afterwards. The Kapa Haka members were delighted when the children responded with a waiata. Tino orotika!

Kapa Haka Matariki Performance

On Sunday the Senior Kapa Haka had their first performance of 2016 at Central Library Peterborough. We were invited to perform as part of the celebrations for Matariki. We were overwhelmed with the number of whānau who came to support us. The library had a record foot count through the door on Sunday - 945 customers, compared to their Sunday average of about 780!
