Kids in Town 2018

The Kapa Haka and Legends Choir performed superbly last week at the Art Gallery, as part of the
Kids in Town programme run by the City Council.

It is great to see so many of our whanau come along to watch and many visitors to the city

stopping to take in the music. Jamison and Brierley played a lovely duet on the cello and viola,
Mya and Abi did a tap dance, and Eva and Samantha danced.

Mighty Minnows have the Moves

The Mighty Minnows Dance Troupe ended the term beautifully for us at the final full school assembly. Thanks to Miss De Freitas and her Year 6 helpers for working with the group - we hope to see them dancing again before the end of the year.

Cultural Festival

On Wednesday we performed at the Christchurch Primary Schools Cultural Festival at the Horncastle Arena. We participate in this festival biennially, so it is an exciting performance for us. The festival runs all week and around 5000 students participated this year. We are very proud of our Hoon Hay performers. You can check out their performance and some photos below. Kei te whakahīhī tātou ki a koutou!

One of our Hoon Hay students, Sarah, also performed as part of the
O'Neill School of Irish Dance group, as well as in the Kapa Haka. Awesome job, Sarah! We loved getting to see you perform. You can see the O'Neill School of Irish Dance performance below.

2nd     Jarrah, performing her contemporary dance
3rd      Ava, Chloe and Milla, performing their contemporary dance

Well done to all those who entered, especially the rest of our finalist acts:
Lilly S, Gabby, Monique, Harry, Eva, Lily P, Samantha, Zoe, Emma, Jamison, Julana, and Jazz.

Thank you to our judges Mrs Andrews, Miss Woodgate, Mr Hawes, Ms McArthur and special guest judge Constable Ross for giving up their lunchtimes to select the finalists.

Start practising your acts for 2017 now!

Get Your Groove On!

The children were pleased to get back to into dance group today after the holidays and they remembered all their moves. We are looking forward to seeing them up on stage sometime soon - we'll let you know what day.
Here's a pic of the Year 5/6 girls - heaps of talent and loads of attitude!

Welcome to our blog!

Kia Ora
Hoon Hay School has always celebrated the Arts - it is an integral part of who we are and we couldn't live without the many opportunities to teach and learn about music, dance, drama, and visual art. We will post notices, information about upcoming events and photos of everything that is going on around the school.
